WRITTEN ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

One of the first steps in the application process for the position of Firefighter/EMT with the City of Marietta is the written examination. Components of the test may include but are limited to the following:

Reading Comprehension
Interpersonal Skills
Mechanical Reasoning
Basic Mathematics

 

  1. Be early; no one will be admitted after test instructions have begun. There will be no exceptions.
  2. You must show a picture ID when you check in.
  3. You must have the test ticket that shows the applicant number you received when you submitted your application in person, online, by FAX, or by mail.
  4. You must bring two sharpened No. 2 pencils for taking the test.

Test will be given at the Kennesaw State University Continuin Education building at 3333 Busbee Drive, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Click here for Google Map.

 

After check-in is complete, representatives from the Fire and Personnel Departments will provide information about the Fire Department, City of Marietta benefits, and the employment process. A short question and answer session will follow. Testing will begin immediately following the question and answer session.

 

Once you have completed the written examination, you may leave. We will notify you by mail of your results and overall ranking. Only the highest scoring candidates will receive background booklets.

The City of Marietta Human Resources Department will notify you of your assigned test date and test session.

 

Applicants must take the test on his or her assigned date and time. If an extreme event such as hospitalization, the death of a family member, or emergency military service prevents you from making your appointed time, we may require you to produce proof of the event. Be advised that applicants are not guaranteed an appointment change, even with evidence of a qualifying event.

The Human Resources Department will mail out the final results of the written examination and the ranking order of passing candidates. The Fire Department will mail background booklets to the highest scoring candidates. The booklet includes a criminal/credit history release form and a request for copies of your driving history, birth certificate, high school or college diploma, and DD-214, if applicable. Notarized release forms for the criminal/credit history and other documents must be returned to the Chief's office within the required time. PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE THESE ITEMS WITH YOUR APPLICATION.
